What happened to Kevin Ogar?

On January 12th, 2014 Kevin Ogar’s life changed forever. He suffered a traumatic injury to his spinal cord as a result of a “freak accident” while competing at an event in Orange County, California. At this time, Kevin has no movement below the waist and will be faced with numerous surgeries and a long road ahead for rehabilitation.

Front Range CF and the CO affiliate community put this workout on to raise money for Kevin Ogar.  We are showing our support as well by doing it today and ask that anyone who can donate to help this guy out.  Click to donate to Kevin Ogar’s Recovery Fund For more information about Kevin Ogar visit http://kevinogar.com

Deep thoughts about Free Saturday by Lindsay Wagnar:  Free Saturday is one of my favorite days at the gym. From an outsiders prospective it may appear to be sheer chaos, but because of the help of CreossFit Flagstaff clients today it was a HUGE SUCCESS.

I love CrossFit for many reasons, the biggest reason being the supportive community. Today we had one of the most complex CrossFit movements in the workout of the day, the snatch. It is the very movement that critically injured Kevin Ogar. You might be thinking, “Why would we snatch on Free Saturday?” Well we know we have the help of each of you coaching the visitors through the work out.

As a coach I often wonder if the cues I  am giving are making it into your memories. Today as I walked through and listened to you coach the visitors through the work out I was so excited! All of your cues were right on point. You were motivating and pushing the guests beyond their percieved limits.

The greatest part is I saw the joy on your faces as the athletes you were working with caught onto the movements. That is the joy I get to experience everyday when I come to work at the gym. As a coach there is no greater joy then to watch someone catch onto a new movement or push themselves harder than usual.

Quote of the day from Molly Wilson as she was coaching a new athlete through “Ogar Strong” :

“This is what we call the Pain Cave. Keep Going!”

Comments

  1. I completely concur with Lindsay and had the very same thoughts today. I was so glad to see Tara post comments to our CrossFit Flagstaff athletes this Free Saturday. It was with incredible pride that I walked the room today, looking to help new people, but barely had to say a thing because our amazing athletes were doing such a great job coaching, leading, helping, improving movement and improving lives, right there in front of me. It was poetry in motion. You all were saying the exact things we teach you, you were mirror coaching, tactile coaching, giving great verbal cues, holding people to range of motion standards, helping them increase and reduce weight appropriately… the list goes on. Thank you for being SO attentive, so willing to help people, and showing them what this place is truly made of – what makes it the amazing place it is!!!!
